The so - called big teams are always subject to rich FPL investment, Chelsea are arguably the biggest. There is plenty of points potentional at both ends of the pitch however it won't come cheap!
Although an ankle injury looks set to rule him out of the opening few GWs it is hard to look past Eden Hazard as Chelsea's star man. The focal point of Chelsea's attack, always involved when they go forward and loves to score big goals in big games. He consistantly scores points and can be very explosive as we saw last season against Everton. Also a solid captaincy option. 224 FPL points last season speaks for itself. Hazard will by no means come cheap and his price looks set to rise from last seasons starting price of 10.0. However a word of caution,by missing the first few weeks of the season he gives the other preminium midfileders a chance to establish themselves and coming back from a long - term injury is never easy. On the flip side he may fly under the radar and become an unlikely differentional when he does eventually return.
The obviou differential for Chelsea is Cesc Fabregas. He will be priced at 7.5 million. The assit king doesn't need starts to bring in the points as he showed last season, if he can continue his amazing end of season form in which he scored once and produced 6 assists in the last 6 GWs then he will be a very good pick and will hopefully fly under the radar!
My budget pick at Chelsea, for the first few games at least is Willian. If his price remians 7.0 million he could well outperform that price tag. No stranger to scoring free kicks this adds another string to his bow. With Hazard out injured he will be eager to show Conte that he deserves a starting role.
Chelsea's defence has always been a consisent source for FPL points. Last season Cahill, Azpilecueta and Alonso all flurished in the 3-4-3 formation with David Luiz not too far behind. However it is predicted that all of them will recieve price hikes, maybe even into the 7 million bracket. This coupled with a tough start fixture wise means that a Chelsea defender is not as high a priority as it was last year. The arrival of Rudiger, a defender from Roma has put Cahill at risk of rotation, if a deal for Alex Sandro or anyother wingback goes through then rotation may seriously hamper FPL prospects. For those players who enjoy a premium goalkeeper then Courtois remains a solid option!
Chelsea's initial attacking options represent a chnace for FPL managers to get points on the cheap, with Hazard injured and Costa seemingly on his way out of Stamford Bridge there are places up for grabs! Pedro and Willian seem the most likely candidates to start with Fabregas not far behind. These players are expected to cost around 7.5/8 million so represent very worthwhile options. It seems a big money striker is inevitably going to arrive at Chelsea and will probably be priced the 10 million mark - this will further crowd the market of premium strikers.
So to conclude my preview of Chelsea for the FPL 17/18 season, this club continues to offer great FPL options howver it will come at a cost and with defensive rotation fears and attacking options unknown FPL mangers may be advised to wait and see.
