There was plenty of excitement on Wednesday morning, after all it was the EPL fixtures announcement, a day when our FPL planning goes up a notch! No doubt many of us were scrambling for our computers or paper to create a fixture ticker, a very important tool. This is the first of two articles in which I will breakdown the fixtures and talk about which teams to avoid and which teams we should load up on in our initial FPL teams. Let's start with the teams to avoid:
Although handed a relatively kind opening game, Stoke (H), Everton have an extremely cruel start. Facing 4 of last season’s top 6 during GWs 2-5. Jordan Pickford is being talked about by many as a strong option – however these fixtures may force us into a re-think. If Lukaku leaves as expected, Everton are surely a team to avoid.
The 15/16 champions Leicester face a tough opening set of six – trips to Arsenal and United followed by visits from Chelsea and Liverpool. Jamie Vardy finished the season and could be an option if he drops price and their new - signing Harry Maguire showed us last year he can gain attacking returns. However, many will be staying well clear!
Chelsea have been handed a tough-ish start with a trip to Spurs in GW2 and the hosting of Arsenal 3 weeks later. Stoke City face Arsenal, United, Chelsea and Everton in their opening 6 – perhaps denting the appeal of Jack Butland.
